GRIPSTONE CLASSES

Classes are offered MONDAY-THURSDAY

INTRO TO GYM CLIMBING FOR KIDS  

  • Ages 12 and up
  • Class is intended to familiarize youth between 12 and 14 years of age with safe use of the Gripstone bouldering and auto belay equipment.
  • Gym orientation, auto belay and bouldering only certification
  • Must pass class for certification
  • Once certified, climbers can boulder and clip THEMSELVES ONLY into auto belay systems
  • No use of top rope belay systems
  • Cost: $29

TOP ROPE CERTIFICATION 

  • Ages 14 and up
  • Class is intended to familiarize youth between 12 and 14 years of age with safe use of the Gripstone bouldering, auto belay and top rope equipment.
  • P.B.U.S technique using the Gri Gri is taught and certified upon passing this class with the intent of safe top rope climbing at the Gripstone Facility.
  • Certification is required to use the top rope systems at Gripstone
  • Cost: $12 with purchase of full price day pass or membership

ADVANCED TOP ROPE CLIMBING

  • Ages 12 and up
  • Gym orientation, auto belay, top-rope using P.B.U.S. belay method, bouldering certification and basic movement tips.
  • Approx. 45-60 min of instruction time
  • Must pass class for certification
  • Once certified, climbers can boulder, clip themselves into the auto belay systems and have full use of top rope belay systems when belayed by another climber who has passed the class or is over 18 and certified.
  • Climbers must be over 18 years of age to clip or tie anyone else into any system
  • Cost: $45

BASIC GYM LEAD AND LEAD BELAY CLASS

  • Ages 14 and up
  • Approx. 3 hours of instruction time
  • Climber must be previously top-rope belay check certified
  • Climber must be able to comfortably climb a Gripstone 5.9 or harder
  • Class covers all of the basics of indoor gym lead climbing
  • Emphasis on safety and gear management
  • Must pass class for certification
  • Minimum of 2 persons to hold class
  • Cost: $109 per person

ADVANCED GYM LEAD AND LEAD BELAY CLASS

  • Ages 14 and up
  • 3 hours of climbing instruction
  • Climber must have previously passed the lead/belay check or Basic Gym Lead class
  • Climber must be able to comfortably climb a Gripstone 5.10
  • At least 3 months minimum climbing experience recommended
  • Class covers all aspects of advanced indoor gym lead climbing
  • Emphasis on safety, gear management and specialized techniques
  • Minimum of 2 persons to hold class, Maximum of 6 persons per class
  • Cost: $139 per person

BASIC MOVEMENT AND TECHNIQUE CLASS

  • All ages
  • One hour of instruction time
  • Introduction to climbing movement
  • Foot placement
  • Body positioning
  • Use of handholds
  • Rest positions
  • Cost: $49

ADVANCED MOVEMENT AND TECHNIQUE CLASS

  • All ages
  • One hour of instruction time
  • A more detailed look at climbing movement and technique on more challenging terrain
  • Designed to build on the Basic movement class
  • Cost: $65

BASIC TRAINING FOR GYM CLIMBING

  • All ages
  • One hour of instruction time
  • Techniques for physical training for gym climbers
  • Emphasizes methods of basic strength training, Endurance and flexibility
  • Recommend at least one month of climbing experience
  • Cost: $49

ADVANCED TRAINING FOR GYM CLIMBING

  • All ages
  • 1-½ hours of instruction time
  • Advanced training methods for strength, power and endurance
  • Recommend at least 6 months of regular focused climbing
  • Comfortable with sustained overhanging climbing terrain
  • Cost: $65

PRIVATE LESSONS

  • Private classes with certified Gripstone Instructor
  • Cost:  $65 per hour

PRIVATE LESSONS WITH TONY YANIRO

  • Tailored private lessons to fit your technique or training needs
  • Cost: $80.00 per hour for members and non-members

 

GYM TO THE OUTDOORS

 

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PART I

Recommended prerequisite for the Outdoor adventure (Part II)

  • Gym setting for learning important rope work for safe outdoor climbing on basic sport climbs. Class will better prepare the climber for the Outdoor adventure (Part II)
  • 1 ½ hours of instruction time
  • Cost: $70

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PART II

  • Guided outdoor educational climbing adventure intended to introduce new outdoor climbers to the crags with expert supervision.
  • Climbers will see and experience basic sport climbing, anchor set-up, safe outdoor ropework and the mechanics of sport leading.
  • Class will be tailored to experience level
  • Class will run approx 6 hours and will take place at the most appropriate climbing area of the season.
  • Cost:  $155 per person (Requires a minimum of 2 persons registered to hold class.  Advanced deposit and reservation required)

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE ADVANCED

  • OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PART II recommended as a prerequisite
  • Inquire at Gripstone for current details of curriculum (can be modified based on need and experience level)
  • Advanced outdoor climbing skills covered including traditional rock climbing and natural protection leading.
